My name is Mary Helen Leonard, and I like to make things.
What kinds of things? Well, all kinds really. Let's start with dinner. I am a professionally trained cook with a passion for healthy cooking, world cuisine, and gourmet ice cream. I have worked as a cook, a culinary instructor, and most recently as a cookbook author. I've even won a few cooking competitions.
Another huge part of my life is natural skin care. I write another blog called The Natural Beauty Workshop as part of my day job. I formulate DIY natural beauty recipes for that blog as well as several other companies including Whole Foods, Better Shea Butter, Prevention Magazine, and Naturally, Seo Magazine. In 2015 I published my first book, The Natural Beauty Solution, a step-by-step guide to replacing commercial beauty products with natural handmade alternatives.
Speaking of books, my second book, The Handmade Mama, is coming out later this year. It will be a collection of healthy recipes, natural skin care tutorials, and simple sewing projects to help support mama through pregnancy and postpartum and help out during baby's first year.
Last but not least is my love of all things artsy, craftsy, and creative. I love to sew, work with paper, and dream up DIY projects for home and family. My husband and I even write songs together in our spare time. Once upon a time we even (kind of) had a band. Needless to say, I'm not really happy unless I'm making something new, and when I decide to make something, I like to make it good.
Mary Makes Good is a resource for healthy and creative living. With delicious recipes, natural beauty tutorials, and easy craft projects, MMG aims to inspire, educate, and collaborate with a vast community of makers. Let's make something good. You will also find little snippets from my life in the kitchen, my journey as a mama, and my adventures as a creative-for-hire. I live in Austin, Texas with my hubby, Scott, our baby boy, CC, two crazy cats and one neurotic collie mix.
